I saw an article about the alarming number of American teenagers who are killed or injured by driving drunk. The story described the work of SADD - Students Against Driving Drunk - and their effort to educate young drivers of the dangers of alcohol. Here was a topic, and an organization, that deserved wider recognition - especially since my own daughter had just hit driving age. I wrote a two week story about teen drinking and, with the syndicate's help, sent the rough sketches to the national headquarters of SADD.
They endorsed the strips and I did something I'd never done before: I printed an address in the strip where more information could be obtained.
As always, when dealing with a serious subject, it's the interaction of the characters that provides the needed shot of humor.
